The lodgings and the larger period apartments are on the fascinating island of Ortigia (1700 long by 650 metres wide) , the historical centre of Siracusa where you can find:
- most of the beauty spots of the town (Temple of Apollo, Arethusa’s Spring, the Cathedral and its beautiful square, the Bellomo Museum...)
- picturesque side streets with Baroque balconies
- the area with the highest concentration of nightlife (bars, pubs, restaurants...)
- the lively fish, fruit and vegetable market
- and many other curiosities.
The other area of interest to tourists (the Paolo Orsi Archaeological Museum, the Catacombs of San Giovanni and the Archaeological Park) is just a 15 minute walk from the island.
The principle towns of Sicily (Palermo, Catania, Agrigento, Taormina...) are easily reached by public transport as are the airports and other points of interest for tourism in the province. Even thought the island is not a bathing zone, it is possible, during the summer month, to bath in areas which are equipped with showers, umbrellas an bars (solarium). A ferry service is also available which will take you to a small sandy beach in a few minutes and at very little cost. The island is full of shops which provide for every need.
